The Sutter Cup - a weekend tournament that decides the winner of the Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League (AMMHL) Southern Alberta Conference (SAC) - is being held in Calgary, March 12th - 14th at the Max Bell Arena. This is a showcase event for top 15 year old hockey talent in Southern Alberta. The four quadrants of Calgary (CBHA, Calgary Royals, CNHA, and NWCAA) are very excited to be the hosts of the AMMHL 2010 Sutter Cup Championship.

The Royals hosted another coach symposium at Centennial Board Room on Monday, Feb. 8 with Mark Maloney and Brian Skrudland presenting on "Preparing for the Playoffs". Those coaches in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the presentation by Brian and Mark. Brian spoke of his playoff experiences both as a player and as a coach and had some interesting and funny stories to share. Mark Maloney followed with a very informative power point presentation, followed by a question and answer period.
Thanks again to both Brian and Mark.

PRACTISE MAKES PERFECT

Puck possession starts with each faceoff & every player on the ice must understand and execute their responsibilites. Quite often the centremen get thrown out of the circle and this is why it is important we understand other positions and responsibilities. Competition is a great tool for practising and I am always impressed when a defencemen wants to challenge a centremen in the possession circle.
When thinking back on what made me successful at this position, I look no further than the words my mentors used when speaking of winning face offs.

SPRING CONDITIONING CAMP INFORMATION

We anticipate that conditioning camp and tryout registrations will be available mid to late March, subject to confirmation of ice. Once again, all registrations will be online and the first week of registration will be for current Calgary Royals players only; after that we will open up registrations to the community hockey associations.

Once we get confirmation of icetimes we will send out an advance notice to all members informing them of specific registration dates, procedures, and policies. No one can register in advance.

We anticipate that camps will be offered the 2nd and 3rd week of August (weeks beginning August 9 and August 16), similar to last year, with tryouts beginning the weekend of August 21/22. Again, this is subject to confirmation of ice.

All information will also be posted on the website and sent to members as it becomes available.
